Diamond Platnumz, born Nasibu Abdul Juma Issack, continuous to reign as Tanzania’s prince of bongo flava, a musical style that melds hip-hop, reggae, Afrobeats and dancehall with the country’s taarab and dansi genres.
He was also the first East African artist to sign with Universal Music. His hits include “Kamwambie” and “Fire” (featuring Tiwa Savage). According to Billboard’s Homegrown musical acts in 11 African countries, Tanzania made the list with five of its amazing talents who topped the Most-Streamed Homegrown artists list on YouTube.
With a total YouTube views of 53.94M, 39.66M, 30.21M, 14.15M and 13.73M respectively, Diamond Platnumz was ranked number one most-streamed artist in Tanzania ahead of Harmonize, Rayvanny, Ali Kiba and Aslay.
A Tanzanian publication also has released a new report detailing musicians with most views on YouTube in May.
The were new surprises on the list provided by the Swahili Times which ranked the top Tanzanian musicians with most views in May.
May’s top 10 list revealed that there has been an increase in streams giving the top five spots on the list were dominated by artists from Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), who constantly released new music in May.
It is no surprise that Diamond Platnumz emerged top on this list once again with 33M views.
Former Wasafi artist Harmonize emerged second again, only this time he made the list with 14.5M views while Rayvanny was ranked third with 13.4M views.
The others were 4th – Mbosso with 6M views, 5th – Zuchu with 5M views, 6th – Aslay with 2.9M views, 7th – Ali Kiba with 2.7M views, 8th – Lava Lava with 2.7M views, 9th – Nandy, and 10th – Juma Jux with 1.8M and 1.2M views respectively.
While Zuchu in May she released several videos off her debut EP ‘I am Zuchu’ to make the May list, it is important to note that the two musicians ranking 9th and 10th did not release any chart-topping songs in May.
