From Afrobeats stars to the late king of coupé-décalé, the top five homegrown musical acts in 11 African countries based on a year of local YouTube views has been released by Billboard.
With a total YouTube views of 13.26M, 11.72M and 7.86 respectively, Shatta Wale has been ranked number one most-streamed artist in Ghana ahead of Sarkodie and Stonebwoy.
The West African dancehall artist was ranked by Billboard as the most-watched artist on YouTube in Ghana. This list featured the top five homegrown musician in eleven African countries.
Arguably one of the most blazing dancehall artists in Africa, Shatta Wale has chalked multiple successes from local and international features.
The latest of his creative works include the recent spotlights on Beyonce’s Lion King Album in 2019 and 2020’s Tropical House Cruises To Jamaica The Reggae Collectors Edition.
In Ghana, while the nation continued to lockdown amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, Shatta Wale has kept fans and citizens entertained with several virtual concerts. A clear map indicating that the “Melissa” singer is yet to back down.
Sarkodie and Stonebwoy who were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively have also chalked multiple successes are still progressing with active music and virtual concerts. Stonebwoy in exception has so far been inducted into the Grammy Museum Sound of Africa Exhibit alongside 14 other african artists, while Sarkodie still carries the BET Award For Best International Flow 2019.
To wrap the top five most streamed artist from the West African country, Ghana, gospel musician Diana Hamilton and Fante rap god Kofi Kinaata made the list with 6.42M and 4.63M respectively.
