The Ghana Music Xperience (GMX) streaming platform has officially launched in Accra, creating an accessible, dedicated space for Ghanaian music lovers. Designed by Ghanaians for Ghanaians, GMX unites the finest in Ghanaian music, from highlife and hiplife to afrobeat and traditional genres, in a single platform that both celebrates Ghana’s musical roots and promotes emerging talents.
The launch event was held at De Iconic Events Centre in East Legon on October 30, 2024, drawing notable figures from the entertainment and political arenas. Attendees included Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer; Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture; Bessa Simons, President of MUSIGA; and Akwesi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority. Esteemed artists like E.L., Zapp Mallet, Samini, Fred Kyei Mensah, and Kaywa were also present to celebrate the platform’s launch.
As the event’s guest of honor, Dr. Bawumia expressed his pride, stating, “This is a historic moment for Ghana to have its own music streaming app. It’s an honor to formally launch GMX, a locally created platform.” The evening’s entertainment featured a memorable performance from acclaimed traditional artist King Ayisoba, who captivated the audience with his unique style.
